Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet founded their manufacture in the remote Vallée de Joux village of Le Brassus in 1875. Entirely family-owned to this day, AP has never needed to answer to shareholders — and that independence shows in every piece they produce. In 1972, Gérald Genta designed the Royal Oak in a single night: an octagonal bezel with exposed screws, integrated bracelet, and sapphire-blue Grande Tapisserie dial that shocked the watch world and invented the luxury sports watch genre. The Royal Oak Offshore amplified that iconography further. The Code 11.59 introduced a more contemporary round case while still housing entirely in-house movements. Today, Audemars Piguet produces fewer than 50,000 pieces per year across all references — making every pre-owned example a scarce and compelling acquisition.
