The Vacheron Constantin Overseas and the AP Royal Oak are two of the most important luxury integrated-bracelet sports watches in production — both Geneva-made (well, AP from Le Brassus, Vallée de Joux), both with Maltese-cross-derived design language (the Overseas has a Maltese-cross-inspired six-sided bezel; the AP has the famous octagonal bezel), and both bearing the Geneva Seal. The Overseas (1996, redesigned 2016) is the more pragmatic: in-house Calibre 5100 automatic, integrated bracelet plus quick-change leather and rubber straps, 150m water resistance. The Royal Oak (1972) is the more historically important: in-house Calibre 7121 automatic (in the current Jumbo 16202ST) or Calibre 4302, the iconic eight-sided Genta-designed bezel with exposed hex screws, integrated steel bracelet only. The Overseas 4500V trades $30,000–$45,000; the Royal Oak 15500ST trades $35,000–$50,000; the Royal Oak Jumbo 15202ST trades $70,000–$95,000. The Overseas is the deliberately undervalued alternative; the Royal Oak is the design icon.
